Turning Dubai's Used-Phone Trade Into a Digital Valuation Workflow

Project: SellAnyPhone.ae — a UAE electronics trade-in service that buys used phones, tablets, laptops and gadgets directly from customers. Developed by BixoSoft founder Murad Faridi in 2017, before BixoSoft was founded — the pricing-engine and online-to-offline experience that later shaped how BixoSoft builds operational platforms.

The Challenge
Selling a used phone in Dubai meant visiting shops one by one, negotiating with each dealer, posting classifieds, answering strangers' messages and hoping the final price matched the promise. The business needed the first half of that process moved online: identify the device, assess its condition, produce a credible price — then hand a qualified, scheduled lead to the physical buying operation.
The Solution
A PHP-based device valuation and pickup-booking platform: a structured device catalogue, a rule-based pricing engine driven by condition answers, and lead capture that turns a quote into a scheduled doorstep inspection with cash payment. An online-to-offline workflow where the website doesn't finish the transaction — it feeds the field operation that does.

The Challenge

Price a device you've never seen, described by a seller who wants the highest number — and do it credibly enough that they book a pickup.

A trade-in business lives or dies on its valuation. Quote too low and customers walk; quote too high and the company overpays for stock it must resell at a margin. The pricing has to be produced instantly, online, from the customer's own answers — brand, model, functional state, cosmetic grade, accessories, proof of purchase — while remaining honest that the final amount is confirmed by physical inspection.

Underneath the simple form sits real structure: a catalogue of brands and models with images so customers identify the right device, base values per model, deduction and adjustment rules per condition answer, and a clear separation between the indicative online quote and the inspected final price — the guard rail that protects the business when a "excellent condition" phone arrives with a cracked screen.

And the workflow doesn't end at the quote. Dubai customers get doorstep inspection and cash on the spot; customers in Abu Dhabi, Al Ain, Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah get collection, office inspection and payment by cash or bank transfer within 48 hours. The software had to model an operation whose rules change by geography.

What Was Built

A device catalogue, a pricing engine and an operational booking flow — the digital front end of a physical buying business.

Device Catalogue & Identification

Accurate pricing starts with identifying exactly what's being sold.

  • Searchable catalogue across manufacturers, model names and model numbers
  • Coverage from iPhones, iPads and MacBooks to Samsung, HP laptops, tablets and other gadgets
  • Product images so customers visually confirm they've selected the right model
  • Catalogue-driven base values as the starting point of every quote

Rule-Based Valuation Engine

The core of the platform — condition answers become a price, automatically.

  • Functional assessment: no issues / issues / non-working
  • Cosmetic grading: excellent, good or fair
  • Accessory and proof-of-purchase adjustments: charger, earphones, original box, valid bill
  • Server-side calculation producing an instant indicative trade-in value in AED

Quote-to-Pickup Lead Capture

The moment a visitor becomes an operational job.

  • Customer details captured with the accepted quote: name, email, address, contact number
  • Pickup date and time selection — the customer schedules the field visit
  • WhatsApp photo review as a manual-valuation fallback when the automated quote doesn't fit
  • Every quote flows into the buying team's workflow instead of a phone conversation

Location-Aware Operations

One platform, two operating models depending on where the customer lives.

  • Dubai: free doorstep collection, on-the-spot inspection and immediate cash payment
  • Abu Dhabi, Al Ain, RAK & Fujairah: collection, office inspection, then cash or bank transfer within 48 hours
  • Walk-in flow for customers preferring the Bur Dubai shop
  • Clear quote-versus-final-price rules protecting both sides at inspection

From Drawer to Cash

The full workflow the platform digitized — online where it's efficient, physical where it must be:

Customer identifies their device in the catalogue answers condition, accessory and proof-of-purchase questions receives an instant estimated value enters contact details and schedules a pickup slot field team inspects the device at the doorstep or office deal accepted — cash in hand, or bank transfer within 48 hours

The design insight: the website's job was never to complete the sale — it was to qualify the device, set price expectations honestly and hand the physical operation a scheduled, structured job.

The Results

An offline buying operation gained a structured digital front door — and the experience became part of BixoSoft's DNA.

Digitized

Shop-by-shop negotiation replaced by an instant online quote

Customers stopped needing to visit dealers or post classifieds to discover their device's value — the platform answers in seconds, then brings the transaction to their doorstep.

Structured

Every purchase starts as clean, qualified data

Device model, condition answers, accessories, quote and pickup schedule arrive as structured records — not scribbled notes from a phone call — feeding inspection and payment with no re-entry.

5+ Emirates

One platform models two operating geographies

Immediate-cash doorstep deals in Dubai and collect-inspect-transfer flows for the wider Emirates run on the same system, each with its own rules and payment timelines.

Foundation

The pattern BixoSoft still builds on

Rule-based pricing engines, catalogue-driven products, lead-to-operations conversion and online-to-offline workflows — experience from this project runs through BixoSoft's later platforms, from SQT Mart's retail operations to Boshna's marketplace mechanics.

Key Takeaway

Long before BixoSoft existed, its founder was already solving the problem BixoSoft is known for today: turning a physical business process into software — a pricing engine, a booking flow and a field operation working as one system.

Have a business process that should be a platform?

Valuation engines, booking flows, trade-in and buy-back systems, online-to-offline operations — we've been digitizing them since before we had a company name.
